INVITATION |
It is my pleasure to invite all the colleagues interested in Cultural Psychiatry and especially the members of the World Association of Cultural Psychiatry who attended the 1st World Congress of Cultural Psychiatry in Beijing, China, to take part in the 2nd World Congress of Cultural Psychiatry that will be held in Orvieto, Italy, from September 26-29, 2009.

The 2009 WACP Congress shall be organized under the auspices of the Municipality of Orvieto, the Istituto Italiano di Igiene Mentale (Italian Mental Health Institute), and the Transcultural Psychiatry Section of Italian Society of Psychiatry, which represent the local organization bodies providing support to the WACP Organization Committee, comprising in turn numerous international Associations.
After having selected the venue and in my capacity of President of the Congress, I now |

have the pleasing and exacting task of singling out the topics
that we intend to focus on more specifically. Among the suggestions received during the first world congress in Beijing,China, relevance was given to the need to delve into the new hybrid scientific disciplines and especially bio-culture, |
to establish common assessment factors for the evaluation of the effectiveness of the psychotherapeutic approaches used in different cultures, to organize culturally sensitive Mental Health services and to analyze the problems arising from the complex relationship between Science and Faith.
In order to be as thorough as possible in performing my assignment, I shall be glad to receive any suggestion or proposal from you so as to then officially forward them to the

| Board of Directors for their final authorization. I personally think that we should incorporate all the creative external suggestions into the major themes already covered in the first world congress taken place in Beijing, China, as they continue to represent the backbone of our activities. |
 |
In organizing the Congress, we have also taken into consideration the opportunity of increasingly consolidating our relations with colleagues who continue to find it difficult to have access to the international context, as well as the needs of the many colleagues coming from countries with diverse socio-economic conditions, by offering them the availability of low-cost accommodations in monastic facilities.
